Coated abrasives – coating method

Coating method

The exact, standardised selection of abrasive grits is of vital importance to the surface quality of the workpiece. An important factor in this regard is the type of process used to apply the grit minerals to the backing.

We differentiate between two coating methods:

Electrostatic coating

Mechanical coating

Slurry coating

Slurry coating involves embedding multiple layers of grit in the binder resin. This produces a finer finish than coated products with the same grit size. Slurry coated abrasives are predominantly used as fine and ultra fine abrasives.
